What is a Paleo diet?

The paleo diet is similar to the diet of human hunter-gatherer ancestors thousands of years ago. Although it is impossible to know exactly what human  ate in different parts of the world, researchers believe that their diet consisted of whole foods. By following a complete food-based diet and living an active life, hunter-gatherer lifestyle diseases may have a much lower incidence, such as obesity, diabetes, and heart disease.

The Paleo diet has many advantages health wide:

  • it is full of protein
  • you eliminate processed foods
  • healthy fats
  • improves blood sugar levels
  • reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease
  • reduces the risk of diabetes

Cons

The main disadvantage is that it is not easy to copy the diet from 10,000 years ago, because animals and plants have evolved since then and are different.

  • many of the diet portions exceed the daily recommendations.
  • it is poor of certain vitamin and nutrients as it eliminates entire food groups
  • low calcium
  • low magnesium
  • low fiber intake
  • it more based on how the humans used to eat before they evolved.

Always make sure you choose whole foods and the least processed.
